Abstract
This work particularly investigates the dosimetric feasibility of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) during delivery of Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation. The quantitative radiosensitivity of GNPs during radiotherapy using both external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy is taken into account. By virtue of the concept of dose enhancement due to nanoparticleaided radiotherapy, dose to healthy tissue could potentially be decreased. This could result in better treatment outcomes, reducing long-term toxicity and cosmesis problems, potentially.
