Abstract
This chapter will briefly describe a spectrum of anesthesia and sedation techniques that can be used for patients undergoing endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). Focused pre-operative evaluation, choice of sedative and/or anesthetic, and a variety of methods to administer supplemental oxygen during the procedure are discussed. If general anesthesia is indicated, this chapter offers the pros and cons of endotracheal tube versus laryngeal mask airway and the different modes of ventilation. Additionally, management of patients who are considered high-risk for anesthesia and sedation is addressed.
