    Abstract

A recent member survey of the American Pain Society and the American Academy of Pain Medicine, two prominent national scientific organizations, ranked pain at the end of life as the major ethical dilemma confronting the practice of pain. Potential reasons for erratic access to state-of-the-art pain management are discussed.
