title = "Developmental biology takes on a Latin American rhythm",
abstract = "At a recent meeting in Latin America, developmental biologists discussed both traditional and not so traditional organisms that are valuable models for dissecting the intricate molecular mechanisms of development.",

note = "Funding Information: The Short Course entitled “Model organisms and innovative approaches in developmental biology” was organized by Ruth Lehmann (Skirball Institute, New York), Jos{\'e} Xavier-Neto (Heart Institute, InCor, University of S{\~a}o Paulo, Brazil), and Ida Chow (Society for Developmental Biology). The Short Course was free of charge to students thanks to a generous grant from the National Science Foundation{\textquoteright}s Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute Program (NSF-PASI), and additional support from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Funda{\c c}{\~a}o de Amparo {\`a} Pesquisa do Estado de S{\~a}o Paulo (FAPESP), Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient{\'i}fico e Tecnol{\'o}gico (CNPq), and other contributors. The next meeting of the LASDB will be combined with the 66 th Annual meeting of the Society for Developmental Biology in Mexico in 2007. The goal is to have another Short Course associated with the meeting.",
