Abstract
Abdominal wall reconstruction has served as the proving grounds for surgical innovation. Over time, the approach to this challenge shifted from open and invasive to more minimally invasive techniques. Advancements in our comprehension of anatomy and the development of newer techniques as well as mesh technologies have been pivotal to this progression. Herein, we explore five landmark studies that have shaped modern practices. In addition, we cite other relevant studies to provide a comprehensive context and deeper insight into these developments.
