Abstract
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is the most common type of heart failure (HF) in women and increases in prevalence with age. HFpEF is associated with multiple cardiovascular and noncardiovascular comorbidities. Diagnosis of HFpEF is challenging and effective disease-modifying therapies are lacking. HFpEF is associated with poor outcomes and is an area of unmet needs. In this chapter, we will review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, prognosis, and management of patients with HFpEF with emphasis on differences by sex. We will also summarize key points and future directions for practicing clinicians and researchers in the field of HFpEF.
