Abstract
In-room image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is the use of imaging in the radiation therapy treatment room to improve patient outcomes in terms of increased tumor control, reduced treatment side effects, and/or improved safety. This chapter discusses and compares the different approaches to each of the different elements of IGRT: in-room imaging technologies, image registration techniques, IGRT correction strategies, and position correction technologies. Additional topics, including the use of IGRT for monitoring of patient response to treatment, quality assurance, adaptive radiation therapy, and preclinical IGRT, are also presented.
