Abstract

Invasive breast carcinomas are a heterogeneous group of maLignant epitheLial tumors that arise in the breast parenchyma and are characterized by their invasion of adjacent tissue and metastatic abiLity. These tumors comprise the majority of maLignant tumors that occur in the breast. The invasive carcinomas can be classified into different groups based on the histological morphology under Light microscope and according to their molecular characteristics revealed by modern gene array technologies. These classifications carry prognostic and predictive values for the disease. To triage the breast cancer patients for local and systemic treatment regimens, biochemical and molecular tumor markers have been developed and utiLized cLinically. In addition to the traditional tumor markers of tumor stage, hormonal receptor status and HER2 gene status, the multigene tumor markers are important complementary tests to achieve the personaLized treatment for each individual breast cancer patient.
