Abstract

A high yielding stable variant of Bacillus licheniformis has been isolated to secrete 100% more activity of alkaline protease by growing the wild type in a medium containing 5% glucose and by subjecting it to repeated heat (80°C, 30 min) treatment. After the seventh treatment, alkaline protease activity had increased from 85 to 196 U ml^-1, offering reproducible performance for commercial exploitation.
