Abstract
Frequent treatment failure in patients with advanced cancers of the head and neck treated with a single modality has led to the use of multidisciplinary strategies for the treatment of cancers of a variety of histologies arising from different subsites within the head and neck region. New surgical techniques, novel chemotherapeutic agents, and alternative methods for delivering radiation therapy for the multimodality treatment of head and neck cancer are discussed, as are some novel forms of treatment that are likely to be included in multidisciplinary treatment strategies in the not too distant future.
