Outcomes in women vs men with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

We assessed differences in morbidity and mortality between men and women with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction enrolled in the Digitalis investigation Group trial. Compared with men, women were older and had greater clinical severity of heart failure at enrollment. Although crude mortality was similar in women and men and more women were hospitalized for heart failure, after adjustment for baseline clinical differences, female sex was an independent predictor of lower mortality, but not of heart failure hospitalization.
