Abstract

Pituitary tumours are among the most common intracranial lesions. Primarily benign adenomas arising from the anterior pituitary gland, they manifest clinically via mass effect or secretion of a variety of hormones resulting in a spectrum of symptomatology. This chapter will focus on the diagnostic work-up and clinical syndromes associated with pituitary adenomas and outline the treatment modalities available. It will also briefly cover carcinomas, a rare pituitary pathology with an exceptionally poor prognosis.
