Abstract
A varicocele is currently the most common surgically correctable finding identified in men being evaluated for infertility. Several theories have been proposed to explain the observed pathophysiology of varicoceles. Semen quality uniformly declines in animals with induced varicoceles, even when there is only a left varicocele. There are several anatomical considerations for the treatment of varicocele with different surgical approaches with the subinguinal microscopic approach offering the best outcomes. With enhanced magnification, miniaturized wristed instruments, 3-D camera, and computer technologies, the da Vinci° Surgical System filters and translates surgeon’s hand movements seamlessly into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments. With da Vinci® Surgical System, novel surgeons would be able to effectively perform subinguinal varicocelectomy in comparison to the standard microscopic approach for the treatment of varicocele.
