Role of virtual colonoscopy in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance

Research output: Contribution to journal › Review article › peer-review

Abstract

Virtual colonoscopy is an emerging technology that promises to provide the public with a minimally invasive alternative for colorectal cancer screening and surveillance in the near future. This radiological procedure combines volume scanning and computer visualization techniques to enable a total colon examination. The primary benefits of virtual colonoscopy for a colorectal surgeon include earlier diagnosis and management of disease (both inside and outside the colon), as well as more accurate surgical planning.
