Abstract

This paper describes the radiotherapeutic protocol recently introduced at the 'Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc' and the 'AZ Sint-Rafael' for locally advanced adenocarcinomas of the prostate (stage C). The characteristic of the treatment is to combine irradiation with fast neutrons and with high-energy photons. The neutrons are produced at the cyclotron CYCLONE (Louvain-la-Neuve) by bombarding a beryllium target with 50 MeV deuterons (symbol: d(50)-Be neutrons). The 18 MV photons are produced by a linear accelerator SATURNE.
