Abstract

A FEW FAST FACTS: The transtheoretical model of change is a comprehensive, multidimensional, conceptualization of change useful for successful counseling by physicians. The model consists of 5 stages: Precontemplation- not intending to change in the next 6 months; Contemplation-seriously considering change; Preparation-intending to change in the immediate future (30 days); Action-6-month period following change; Maintenance-from 6 months until problem behavior is finally terminated.
