Abstract
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients with malignancy. The incidence and severity depend on the cancer type, treatment regimen, and the patient’s comorbidities. The presence of CKD is also a determinant of AKI. The development of AKI can impact survival because of direct complications and because it influences decisions about continuing cancer treatment. The diagnosis, including novel biomarkers, are discussed. Renal toxicity associated with chemotherapy and novel therapies are also discussed. Finally, the treatment and prognosis of the unique syndromes associated with AKI in patients with malignancy are reviewed in this chapter.
