Abstract

E. coli is still the first choice of host when foreign gene is expressed. Heterologous proteins could be expressed directly in the cytoplasm, secreted into the periplasmic space or extracellular medium. Recent developments on E. coli expression system are covered, according to the possible destiny of foreign proteins.
