Abstract
An approach to the support of 'literate programming' is described, which provides for on-line preparation and inspection of literate programs, as well as the generation of printed listings for off-line perusal. The facilities described take due account of the advantages of on-line display for structured documents, and of variations in the requirements of familiar and unfamiliar readers.
