Abstract

BREAST CANCER in elderly women is a medical problem of increasing magnitude. The 19851989 incidence rate for breast cancer in women ≤64 years was 71.4/100,000 and for women ≥65 years, 434.6/100,000. Mortality rates were 16.8/100,000 and 123.8/100,000, respectively. Life expectancy of this group of patients is underestimated, and survival rates among the 2 groups are comparable. Elderly women also tolerate chemotherapy well. This review focuses on the characteristics of elderly patients with breast cancer and discusses a comprehensive clinical approach.
