    Abstract

98 patients were scanned consecutively with one radial and one linear probes during the same examination. Advantages and drawbacks of the two types of transrectal probes are basically related to the different physical principles of real-time scanning (sector versus linear) and the different plans of cross-section available. Anatomic relationships of prostate are more easily analysed with radial scanning since the examiner is more familiar with transverse cross-sections. The linear probe better displays lithiases and allows a urodynamic non invasive study of the vesical neck and posterior urethra during the micturition.
