Critical Care Imaging in Oncology Patients

Abstract

Imaging of critically ill patients presents particular challenges, and inevitably there are compromises. As far as possible, it is sensible to undertake as much imaging at the bedside as is feasible. It has been reported that up to 70% of patients experience significant physiologic changes during transportation from ICU (2). However, it should be appreciated that bedside examinations impose constraints on image quality. Some practical considerations and comparative features between plain radiography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI are presented below and in Table 1.
