Abstract

A FEW FAST FACTS: About 46 million people in the United States currently smoke. They represent a nicotine-dependent, difficult-to-treat population. Self-quit rate is only 4% at 1 year post-treatment. Combination treatments, eg, nicotine replacement plus behavioral program, show a high level of treatment efficacy. Absolute cessation rates for these treatments range from 28% to 38% at 1 year post-treatment.
