Abstract

We have successfully developed a new high-resolution PMT-Quadrant-Sharing (PQS)[1] PET panel detector system. Each bank consists of 48 × 112 LYSO detector elements with a pixel size of 2.35 × 2.35 × 15.5 mm 3. After grinding a regular detector bank into a half pentagon shape with tapered-end crystals, 24 half pentagon banks will form a gapless cylindrical ring with 87-cm in diameter and 27.6-cm in axial FOV. Two gapless adjacent panels share one row of PMT to extend the PQS configuration beyond one panel for maximizing the PMT usage economically. The entire ring has 504 PQS blocks consisted of 129,024 detectors and coupled to 576 PMTs (φ 38-mm). The aim of this study is to achieve an optimized PET system performance in spatial resolution, sensitivity, emission-scan duration, detector time-resolution, electronic simplicity, count-rate, manufacturing and service cost.
