Abstract
High grade neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the cervix consists of small cell, large cell, and undifferentiated NEC. This subtype accounts for only 1%–2% of all cervical cancer cases. Unlike in patients with the more common subtypes of squamous cell and adenocarcinoma, women with high grade NEC have a higher risk of metastatic disease at diagnosis, higher recurrence rates, and decreased survivals. Treatments for newly diagnosed disease often consist of surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy. Treatment for recurrence is exceedingly limited with few active agents.
