Abstract
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the most efficient treatment for the relief of menopausal symptoms. Prophylactic administration of HRT has been used in clinical practice in postmenopausal women with increased risk for osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease or Alzheimer’s disease. However, potential risks of cancer, thromboembolism and stroke have created some insecurity in the prolonged use of therapy. In this chapter, an extensive review of clinical trials will be made to assess the potential benefits and risks of HRT.
