Abstract
Intralesional treatment of tumors is frequently used for benign tumors. In certain malignant tumors, particularly metastatic disease, intralesional treatment is an important part of surgical management. The techniques for intralesional treatment are quite diverse, and many innovations have been made over the past few decades. Percutaneous and mini-open procedures can be used in certain situations. Extensile exposures and aggressive, high-speed burring are necessary in other settings. Adjuvant modalities such as cryotherapy and argon beam coagulation may be helpful in difficult cases. The choices for reconstruction have become quite numerous. These include bone grafting with autograft, allograft, and a variety of bone graft substitutes. A sound knowledge of the underlying disease is important in selecting the appropriate techniques for each particular case.
