Abstract
The diagnostic accuracy of laparoscopic sonography (LUS) and transvaginal sonography (TVS) in the evaluation of adnexal mass is compared. LUS demonstrates higher resolution images and has additional operating time required than TVS. It also offers a new perspective not possible with existing techniques, specifically in enabling the laparoscopic surgeon to see below the surface. LUS must be used selectively to supplement laparoscopy when the contralateral ovary cannot be imaged preoperatively and when the status of residual ovarian tissue of the ipsilateral ovary is uncertain preoperatively.
