Abstract

Cervical cancer continues to be a major worldwide health concern, particularly in developing countries. In the past few decades, great strides have been made in understanding the molecular basis of the development of this disease. Human papillomavirus (HPV) has become recognized as the major factor in the genetic abnormalities associated with both pre-invasive and invasive cervical cancer. As a result, multiple therapies for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer have been developed to target HPV.
