Abstract

Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a rare and difficult to characterize subtype of breast cancer for which few in vitro and in vivo models are currently available. In this chapter we describe the characteristics and limitations of the models that have been published to further study the pathology of IBC and to develop therapeutic approaches for IBC. Published information regarding receptor status, E—cadherin expression, 2D and 3D culture, xenografts, ability to form metastases and identified tumor-initiation cell sub-populations are reviewed.
