Abstract

Malignant gliomas are biologically and clinically aggressive neoplasms with a high mortality rate. Recent therapeutic advances have been modest and incremental at best. An increased understanding of the factors, which promote progressive biologic and clinical behavior, is needed to improve upon current therapeutic modalities. Model systems of glioma, which accurately reflect the biology of the human disease, show promise as a means to accomplish this goal.
