Abstract

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most frequent cancer worldwide and the overall 50% five-year survival rate is among the lowest of the major cancers. Alterations in cellular molecules controlling DNA repair, proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and angiogenesis are known to contribute to the development of HNSCC. This review will focus on the molecular changes contributing to the pathogenesis of HNSCC and their clinical implications in designing new therapeutic strategies.
