Multimodality imaging in ureteric and periureteric pathologic abnormalities

Abstract

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this article is to describe and illustrate multimodality imaging features of various pathologic abnormalities involving the ureteric wall and periureteric space, with emphasis on the role of cross-sectional imaging. CONCLUSION. Ureteric and periureteric pathologic abnormalities may be identified on imaging studies, and although urothelial neoplasm remains the most concerning ureteric pathologic abnormality, there are several other nonneoplastic entities that may involve the ureter and the periureteric spaces. Knowledge of the spectrum of imaging findings in these entities may help the interpreting radiologist to formulate appropriate differential diagnoses.
