Abstract

Neuroendocrine tumors are ubiquitous neoplasms derived from the diffuse neuroendocrine system that can arise virtually in any anatomic site, most commonly the bronchopulmonary system, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreas. Despite their common histogenesis, the diagnostic criteria and nomenclature for neuroendocrine tumors are different depending on primary site, advocating for greater standardization and terminology across all anatomic areas.
