Abstract
The ability to achieve voice preservation in the management of carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx has been reviewed. Voice preservation is not only feasible but achievable in numerous patients, even with advanced cancers. Limited studies have evaluated chemotherapy with or without partial laryngeal surgery. Radiotherapy has a tremendous role as a therapeutic modality critical for organ preservation. Several questions that remain unanswered are addressed in the following sections.
