Abstract

Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor with a low 5-year survival rate. Analgesia is an important part in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Conventionally, pain is alleviated using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and/or opioid analgesics, following the three-step analgesic ladder pain management strategy recommended by the World Health Organization. However, pain is difficult to control in some cases. Under such circumstances, celiac plexus neurolysis (CPN), in which the celiac plexus is chemically ablated, has been widely performed as an alternative treatment for alleviating cancer-associated pain. This review introduces several ways of CPN and focuses on CPN guided by endoscopic ultrasound.
