Abstract

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of death from cancer in developed countries worldwide. Current efforts in combating lung cancer focus on the development of therapies tailored to each individual patient, including the use of highly conformal radiation therapy, more effective and less toxic chemotherapy agents, and molecular-targeted approaches. The fourteen chapters of this book are authored by international experts and cover the state of the art in such strategies, and include molecular characterization, screening and risk factors, disease staging and prognosis, and forms of therapy for non-small-cell and small-cell lung cancer. The book also addresses guidelines for standard treatment of lung cancer at various stages and novel targeted agents now in development.
