PET imaging of hypoxia and apoptosis

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Hypoxia and apoptosis are important biological processes that can be interrogated by molecular imaging and applied to study human diseases. This chapter reviews the capabilities and limitations of visualization of this biological processes. The basic mechanisms of imaging and the measurement parameters of hypoxia and apoptosis are delineated. The current state of art of PET imaging of hypoxia and apoptosis are presented. The requirements of these imaging technologies to serve as imaging biomarkers are also outlined. The perspective of hypoxia imaging and apoptosis imaging in the near future is also discussed.
