Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Lacrimal Gland

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Anterior superolateral extraconal mass, originating predominantly in the orbital lobe of the lacrimal gland. Usually a well-defined solid mass lesion, mostly ovoid but lobular when large; may have a cystic component. Slightly hyperdense (though heterogenous) on nonenhanced CT, possible small foci of calcification. Causes smooth remodeling of the adjacent orbital rim on bone windowing. Intermediate signal on T1 and T2 weighted images, usually diffuse, marked, albeit heterogeneous, enhancement. T1 shows iso- to hypo-intense signal while the signal is iso- to hyper-intense on T2. Usually high diffusivity on ADC maps indicative of a hypocellular mass.
