Abstract

Melanoma incidence continues to rise at an alarming rate. More than 100,350 new cases and over 6,850 deaths are predicted for 2020 in the United States. Prognosis for patients with melanoma is heterogeneous. Proper melanoma management is predicated on accurate staging in accordance with the American Joint Committee on Cancer. Over the past decade, a myriad of advances and changes in the management of patients with advanced melanoma has impacted their prognosis and outcomes. This chapter presents a broad and practical overview and approach to the patient with suspected or proven melanoma.
