Abstract

Thirty patients with locally advanced (Stage C) adenocarcinoma of the prostate underwent megavoltage irradiation to 7,000 rads in 6-7 wk and had serial transperineal biopsies 3-30 mth later. The first 68 biopsies showed the slow regression rate and consequent insignificance of histopathologic findings during the first postirradiation year. Morbidity from irradiation and biopsy was minimal.
