Abstract
Radiologically guided percutaneous musculoskeletal biopsy has many advantages and few disadvantages. It can be done rapidly and precisely with highly accurate results and is nearly painless with only local anesthesia. Radiologists have available the technical equipment and manual skills necessary to perform the biopsies of primary or secondary tumors and infections. Orthopedic surgeons should consider including the radiologist in a team with the patient and pathologist when such biopsies are necessary.
