Abstract

Sex cord-stromal tumors are rare neoplasms which most commonly occur in the ovary. Granulosa cell tumors are the most common histologic subtype. Presenting symptoms and signs may be specific to this group of tumors, and treatment is determined by many factors, including age and histologic subtype. Appropriate therapy usually includes surgery, and chemotherapy often plays a role. Much progress has recently been made in the field of sex cord-stromal tumors, with regard to fertility-sparing surgery, surgical staging, less toxic chemotherapy, useful biologic agents, and the genetic etiology of granulosa cell tumors. These advances and the management of patients with sex cord-stromal tumors are comprehensively reviewed in this chapter.
