Abstract

Botryomycosis is an uncommon form of bacterial infection in which the histologic hallmark is the presence of fungus-like granules in suppurative foci.1-3 The hyperim-munoglobulin E-recurrent infection syndrome (HIE syndrome) is an immunodeficiency syndrome characterized by excessive elevations in serum IgE concentrations (typically greater than 10 times the upper limit of normal) and recurrent bacterial sinopulmonary and skin infections from birth.4,5 In this report we describe a patient with HIE syndrome who developed cutaneous botryomycosis at 2 years of age.
