Effective tobacco control initiatives must operate on multiple levels, using efforts of the public, clinicians, health systems, and state and governmental agencies. Acute and critical care nurses have a unique opportunity to become a cornerstone for the nation's tobacco control efforts through integration of tobacco prevention and cessation interventions as part of routine patient care.
