Abstract

Tobacco use continues to be a public health issue of great importance. Effective tobacco control initiatives must operate on multiple levels, using efforts of the public, clinicians, health systems, and state and governmental agencies. Acute and critical care nurses have a unique opportunity to become a cornerstone for the nation's tobacco control efforts through integration of tobacco prevention and cessation interventions as part of routine patient care.
