Abstract

The commonly used parameters of radiation quality, LET and linear energy, exhibit their shortcomings when ranges of charged particles are comparable with dimensions of subcellular structures. An interpretation of this fact is given and a new parameter, the linear energy deposit, is introduced. On this basis a simple model for estimation of RBE of electron-photon fields has been developed and applied to monoenergetic photon sources in the energy range of 102-106 eV.
