Abstract
The method and usefulness of impulse cytophotometry (ICPM) in the quantitative determination of nuclear DNA are demonstrated in body effusions from 61 gynecologic patients. This collection was composed of: 10 samples of ascitic effusions; 8 samples of punctured cysts; 43 samples of secretions from the pouch of Douglas with Douglas lavage, laparoscopy or laparotomy. There is a good agreement with the clinical staging of the ovarian cancer. Furthermore, the efficiency of therapy in the management of ovarian cancer can be controlled. By the method of ICPM it is possible to avoid false negative results in the specimens of ovarian cysts, which were received in the common histological examination. These results appear to justify the examination of a larger collection in a way of prescreening for the ovarian cancer.
