Abstract
Cord blood transplantation (CBT) has emerged as a promising alternative for transplantation for patients lacking a matched peripheral blood or bone marrow donor and has witnessed major developments over the past two decades. Owing to the recent advances in the transplantation techniques and the implementation of evidence-based guidelines in the clinical transplantation practices, CBT now has outcomes comparable to those of other donor sources. Moreover, double CBT has been widely adopted. To overcome limitation of low cell doses available in single cords, innovative strategies to improve the application of CBT have been devised. In this chapter, we review the clinical practice of CBT and some of the major developments in the field.
