Abstract
NEWLY DIAGNOSED hepatic masses may present a diagnostic dilemma for the clinician. In the majority of cases, appropriate radiographic studies establish the diagnosis of benign or malignant disease. Most hepatic masses are benign, and it is necessary to understand the natural history of these benign lesions to dictate appropriate management. Hemangiomas and focal nodular hyperplasias can be managed conservatively with observation in most cases. However, hepatic adenomas may require more aggressive management (ie, resection) due to the risk of hemorrhage and malignant transformation.
