Abstract
Xanthogranuloma of the breast is an uncommon but clinically important entity because it is a benign mammary lesion. To date, the published literature on imaging features is scarce. The mammographic and ultrasound presentations are varied and no specific characteristic features are identified. This can make differentiation from primary breast malignancy difficult, based on imaging features. Biopsy is ultimately necessary to make the diagnosis. This case report describes the mammographic, gray-scale and power Doppler ultrasound, and histological features of xanthogranuloma of the breast, and discusses possible benign and malignant differential diagnoses.
